The Promise
Once upon a time there was a boy named Max. Max loved the sea and every creature in it. Loved. With A Capital L. Max asked his mom if she would drive him from his landlockedstate to see the sea with his very own eyes. His mom explained that gasprices were too high. Max was disappointed that he would not see thesea anytime soon, but he understood.
Then, the numbers on thegas station signs around town started to go down. When they hit $3, Max'smom made some comment about how gas was "cheaper." To which Maxreplied,"Cheap enough to get us to the sea?" To which his mom replied,"It'd have to get WAY cheaper to get us to the sea." "How cheap? If itis $2 can you take me to the sea?" "I don't think so." "How cheap?" Hismom considered the possibility for a moment and said, "Max, if gasprices get to a buck fifty, I'll drive you to the sea."
Did Max's mom think gas prices would get down to a buck fifty? Nope. Did shethink she would have to pony up and drive Max to the sea anytime in thenear future? Nope. Was this around the time when McCain had said,"The fundamentals of our economy are strong?" Probably. Has Max announced the price of gas every day since she made this agreement? Yep. Is shenearing the point of eating her words? Yep. Max's mom is not one to break a promise, no matter how big or hastily made.
Help Max (and his mom) get to the sea by throwing in some loose change toward gas money! (This was not Max's mom's idea, just some friends who want to help her keep her promise.)
